Indian catfish or magur mach is a fish very commonly eaten all over India. It is considered a great source of proteins, potassium and vitamins. It could be the best buy when it is alive. Then it can be chopped or filleted according to your choice. It is the only fish that I have seen being to be sold alive. It is better to buy a catfish / magur mach alive coz from very childhood I used to saw that when my dad bought some catfish for us & after brought it from the market he just kept all the catfish / magur mach into a deep vessel with full of water. And my mom told me that a catfish when pulled out of water stays alive for a very long time so it is better to buy a live fish as one which is dead is considered to have died due to disease and is unfit for consumption.
